Rain, rain rain! We have been at Americus KOA since January 6th and I believe that it has rained at least 4 dayS each week. From what I am told, this is a wet Spring for here. There are flowers blooming and we have seen robins, geese flying north and the humming birds are do here this week. So Northerners, Spring is coming!
So far working at the KOA is a relaxed, no pressure job. The campground has been quiet, one or two arrivals a day, our big day was 10 arrivals. There are rally’s booked for March so we should get busier. In addition to the campground I also check in golfers, disc and ball, but with all the recent rains, I mostly read.
Debra and her family are all wonderful people and a pleasure to work for.
We are Kevin and Dodi Carr, traveling the country in our RV. Having been on the road for 12 years we have a lot of adventures to share. This blog is my view on our travels, check the link below to get to Kevin’s blog.

Disc Golf at Americus KOA Brickyard Plantation Golf Club
Debra Sykes, Manager of the Brickyard Plantation Golf Club, recently added 18 holes of Disc Golf to the 18 hole golf course that was established in 1979. Disc Golf is a great way to get exercise and have some fun. Kevin and I started a couple of weeks ago and try to play a couple times a was week, in between the rain that seems to never go away.
After watching several videos on YouTube, we set out on our first try. Needless to say, we didn’t do so well, 6 shots on par 3 holes. But every time we go out it is a definite improvement.
Generally you play with three discs, a range driver, mid range, and a putter. Some of the throwers we see here have a wide range of each disc that they use depending upon conditions. We stick to just 3 that Debra has been kind enough to lend us. You would think that you would throw them like a frisbee, (there is a big difference between a golf disc and a frisbee) but there is a definite learning curve (check out some YouTube videos). Kevin and I have a long way to master the art of throwing. As you improve with the game, there are many different disc manufacturers with different weight and textured disc.
I have checked out courses near Twin Mountain KOA, there is one at Brenton Woods Disc Golf and Loon Mountain you take the Gondola to the top and play your way down the mountain.
Disc Golf can be an inexpensive way for fun and exercise. A starter kit runs about $20 (3 discs included) and there are a lot of free courses out there (Easterlin County Park is one in South Florida). Debra charges a $5 fee for all day play, this is comparable to private course. Find you local disc golf course and have some fun!

Blogging after all these years
I dug this blog out and realized it had been 10 years since I posted anything! So where to begin..
2020 is beginning a new chapter in our lives. We got rid of our Tiffin Allegro Bus, which was very costly for us and while a nice riding and upscale coach, we couldn’t travel the backroads, which we missed and the amount of dollars to keep it prohibited us from enjoying the trips we use to make. The 2004 Condor, 36 foot, we now call home is just what we wanted. LOTS of windows and lots of redecorating to do, something I missed being able to do with the Tiffin.
Check out these bedroom windows! My plants are loving this. A King size bed was also a big selling point.
The living room/kitchen area did not come with a couch or dining table, which is great for us because we always took out the dinette and put in more storage. We have been using the “driving chairs” to watch TV which is mounted on the back wall. Our plan s to line the slide out with countertop and storage. We have enough room to bring in chairs if we have inside company. I will post our remodeling as it progresses, after we return to New Hampshire.
2020 is also a big year for our family. Our daughter Stephanie is expecting our second granddaughter on 4/7. We are planning on leaving Americus, Georgia on 4/1 to be there when the big event happens! We have actually been recruited to take care of our first granddaughter, Taya, and to help out around the house for the first few days. I’m excited to spend time with them before we start work again.
Our second big event for the year is our daughter Ashley is getting married to a wonderful man, welcome to the family John, in September. An outdoor Montana wedding is planned!
Kevin and I have start our 13th year of being on the road in May. We have had many wonderful adventures that we will share with you,, me on this blog, and Kevin on his kevinsbraindroppings.blogspot.com. We hope you enjoy reading our stories.
